I love summer, don’t get me wrong, I always have. Today I am tired though. Not so tired of summer, but tired from the exhaustion that comes with having no set schedule; namely no set bedtime. I am also exhausted from the heat. It is isn’t a huge deal but when you go from cold to hot to cold to hot–then it is exhausting. I know I shouldn’t complain. It is not like I am working on a road crew in the heat and I am complaining about getting in air conditioning. Shame on me for complaining about something the majority of the world does not enjoy.
Today was day 2 of wedding planning for my youngest daughter. It has been a couple of weeks since her engagement but since she arrived in Houston Friday night, this was our second day to really work on nailing down some things. It all went well, but we are tired. Isn’t that pitiful? I feel less tired when I am doing physical labor all day. I guess that is why I am blaming the late nights that happen in a house of teenagers on summer break, and I am blaming the 100 plus temperatures.
I just want to be a spoiled pampered dog, who can lay on their bed and nap on and off and drink from a Starbucks cup. Better yet, I want to be a literate dog who can nap and read in between naps. I am one chapter away from finishing, “Go, Set A Watchman”, the latest release by Harper Lee. This book has my mind running on over drive. I was going to finish it and write about it this week but I really want to discuss it with someone first. I found someone yesterday. One of my 15 year old friends (from church) who has finished already. I hope we can meet for coffee and discuss it before next Monday because I cannot wait to hear her take on it. She just read “To Kill A Mockingbird” for Freshman English and I am sure the viewpoint of a young reader will be a totally different take. This book is eating me up and I don’t know how to even begin writing about it. Have you started it? What are you waiting on? It’s summer! You can stay up late and be exhausted like me. Here is a link if you want to buy it now.
In the meantime, stay cool, drink lots of water and take a nap like a dog–it’s hot out there.
